ActiveX Controls
ActiveX, which comes with Micro$oft Internet Exploiter, is a powerful means of passing executable programs over the Internet as object modules. Read this again. Executable programs over the Internet! This is madness.
With ActiveX enabled, the mere act of going to a site and running an innocent-appearing feature can permamently damage your computer, and none of Micro$oft's supposed security measures do the tiniest bit of good. The Web is full of malicious ActiveX controls, and in fact this is how GoHip does the dirty deed.
If you don't do anything else to protect yourself online, at least block or turn off ActiveX. You'll lose a great deal of functionality on a few sites, but you'll still have a computer not to function.
